WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Leland man is in the New Hanover County jail accused of breaking into several homes, stealing and pawning stolen items.
Wayne Timonty Efird, 36, was wanted by Wilmington police. Sheriff’s deputies arrested Efird Wednesday night on Figure Eight Island.

Police say the property was stolen between October and January from three separate victims. He was working as a construction contractor at the time. Police say he is also charged with felony larceny for stealing several thousands of dollars’ worth of jewelry from a home in the 2300 block of Oleander Drive in January.
Efird is believed to have appropriated upwards of $130,000 in stolen goods.
Police say Efird is also charged with felony breaking and entering for breaking into a home on Tattersalls Drive in December and stealing a generator and fishing gear. On another occasion in January, Efird stole lawn equipment while working as a contractor in the same home on Tattersalls Dr.
Efird also faces a charge of larceny by an employee for stealing construction equipment from his employer between October 2016 and January 2017.
He is currently being held without bond.
