CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) — Charlotte police say they’re looking for clues and suspects after a barrage of gunfire in the middle of a downtown street near the site of a basketball championship game.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Sunday that officers arriving on the found several dozen shell casings left behind by the spent bullets. Police say no one was injured in the shooting but several nearby apartment units and vehicles were hit.
Detectives say the shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, about half an hour before the start of the men’s title game of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association at the Spectrum Center about four blocks away. Police say the incident was not related to any official events sponsored by the conference of primarily historically black universities.
