BALD HEAD ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — Last November, workers started repairs on a 200-year-old lighthouse on Bald Head Island.
Nearly four months later, those repairs are almost complete.
The lighthouse will reopen Wednesday, but crews will be back next week to finish work on some last exposed brick on top of “Old Baldy”.
The main repair was to waterproof the lighthouse. It has been about a decade since significant repairs were done.
Visitors should expect intermittent closing of climbs to the top.
