WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The 2017 Wells Fargo Championship discussion continued on Wednesday in Wilmington, during the Greater Wilmington Business Journal’s Power Breakfast.
A panel consisting of government, business and tourism leaders discussed how the area can benefit from the tournament for years to come.
One of the panelists, Kim Hufham, President of the Wilmington and Beaches Convention & Visitors Bureau, plans to target spectators through advertising. The bureau also plans to push information to cell phones using geofencing around the golf course.
“It’s a one time opportunity for us,” said Hufham. “We don’t have events like this every day, every year even. So to be able to have this type of opportunity, and be able to showcase it to the tens of thousands of people who will be here during the tournament, is just an opportunity we really need to be able to capitalize on.”
Other panelists included Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo, New Hanover County Commission Chair Woody White, and Albert Eckel from Eckel & Vaughn, the communications agency for the Chamber’s regional marketing initiative.
The 2017 Wells Fargo Championship tees off at Eagles Point Golf Club in Porters Neck May 1st.
