WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — For six days the UNCW Seahawks could only wait and prepare for an unknown opponent. Now they know who all that preparation was for on college basketball’s biggest stage.

The Seahawks, who won the CAA Championship last Monday night in South Carolina, head to Orlando for a NCAA Tournament first-round match-up against Virginia Thursday. The game is scheduled to tip off at 12:40 p.m. on truTV.

Kevin Keatt’s squad is the 12th seed in the East Regional. The Cavaliers are seeded fifth in the East. The winner plays again Saturday against the winner of the 4-13 match-up between Florida and East Tennessee State.

It’s the second straight year UNCW takes on a team from the ACC in the “Big Dance.” Last year the Seahawks lost to Duke in the first round after leading the Blue Devils for most of the game in Providence, RI.

UNCW is 29-5 on the season. They won the CAA Championship for the second straight season.

UVa is 22-10 this year. The Cavaliers finished fifth in the ACC. They lost to Notre Dame Thursday in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament in Brooklyn, NY. UVa was ranked No. 21 in last week’s AP Top 25. Last year Virginia’s trip to the NCAA Tournament ended in the Elite Eight. The Cavs narrowly missed a trip to the Final Four with a 68-62 loss to ACC foe Syracuse.
