SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — Law Enforcement Officers from all over the state lined a main street in Southport to honor a fallen officer.
From state troopers, to fire and EMS, to sheriff’s deputies to the police officers who stood by his side, dozens lined Southport Baptist Church standing at attention to honor the life and service of Officer Jason Freeman.
“He was just a go-getter and did not hesitate to answer the call to duty,” Lt. Todd Coring said.
Lt. Todd Coring said it was a somber day for the Southport community and the law enforcement community whether you knew Officer Freeman or not.
“You know you hear the phrase, ‘The blue line’ and that it runs deep and it’s a true statement obviously today seeing everybody come together,” Coring said. “You know when one is hurting, we’re all hurting.”
Coring said was about more than just saying their goodbyes.
“We just want to pull together for his family,” Coring said. “We just want to show them that we appreciate the job that he does and his services and that we are here to support them.”
As Officer Jason Freeman was taken to his final resting place, you could see a long, blue line following.
