WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — On campus, many students and faculty have mixed feelings about Kevin Keatts moving on from UNCW.
Some say they are sad while others say they are confused. Some say they just don’t know how to feel.
It is safe to say that after a tough loss in the NCAA tournament, it adds salt to the wounds of many students at the university.
Many of them are worried for what’s next for the Seahawks basketball program.
“I know my roommate is definitely bummed, ready to call him a traitor, and I’m sure there are others that feel the same way but at the end of the day, you know, we’re all just, we’re just sad he’s leaving,” sophomore Paul Schnoremberg said. “No one’s really mad at him.”
“I would say sad, nervous, but excited because, for one, he’s a great guy,” freshman Marshall Waren said. “He’s going to get a great opportunity at NC State. I can’t wait to see how he does there. I mean it’s a great opportunity for him. I’m glad for him, but I’m also sad and nervous for our program.”
“It’s bittersweet,” junior Josh Hublitz said. “I know that’s been speculated for a while now. Obviously a little bit confused too.”
All the students can do now is wish him the best in the next chapter in his coaching career.
As the players touched back down in the Port City Thursday night, they kept their heads down after their loss.
Now, students at UNCW keep their heads down as they lose their coach to another school.
