RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — The Kevin Keatts era has begun in Raleigh.

NC State formally introduced Keatts as the Wolfpack’s new men’s basketball coach during a news conference Sunday. It was Keatts’s first public appearance since news broke Friday that he was leaving UNCW and joining NC State as their new head coach.

Coach Keatts spoke of his enthusiasm about being the new head coach, what he plans to do with the program and his goal of an ACC championship.

However, he says he is glad that his players at UNCW understand why he must move on.

“I think every kid in that room understood that this was a great opportunity for my family and I,” Keatts said. “I think they all understand what kind of program this is. I think that they all accepted it. Toughest thing I’ve ever had to do because of the fact that the relationship that you have built.”

Keatts was a Seahawk but is now part of the Wolfpack, and even though NC State is the next big step for him, he says he’ll always consider UNCW a home.

I guess the almighty dollar wins once again. He said he wanted to finish what he started at UNCW. I guess the 2 million pushed THAT to the side.
Oh well, thanks for what you did coach, good luck with what you’re going to do…
