WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — After more than six months of delays, the restaurants at the new concert venue on Wilmington’s riverfront will soon be open.
Pier 33 opened last March. Two restaurants were expected to open last summer, but that did not happen.
Sales and Marketing Manager Courtney Dooley said two restaurants, Black Fin and Vida were supposed to follow shortly after opening sometime later in the summer.
“We had some delay in construction,” Dooley said.
While that led to some messy months in between, Dooley said the venue spoke for itself.
“We had a lot of construction equipment on site and in the parking lots so we had a make shift river walk that went out in front of Black Fin and so when it rained it got muddy, but for the most part, when they got down here, they were like, ‘Wow. This is going to be so cool.'”
Next door at Port City Marina, Pete Werling said it is drawing a lot of attention.
” We are real excited,” Werling said. “The boats are interested. The boats that are here.”
Dooley said in just a few weeks visitors will finally get to come inside. You will even find pieces of the cape fear river everywhere.
“This was actually just in the Cape Fear River,” Dooley said.
One entire wall came from the very bottom of the river.
“They found a lot of antique boards and pilings that had fallen into the water,” Dooley said.
While the whole project may have taken longer than expected, Dooley said it will all be worth the wait.
“We’re really excited about opening and having this whole complex open with so much fun stuff to have and to do,” Dooley said. “The good thing is that we have the community that’s so excited behind us.”
Dooley said the bandshell is being covered right now and should be done in the next 30 days.
Dooley said they are planning to open Black Fin first and then Vida starting in late spring.
