WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Being healthy has a lot to do with what you put in your body. On this week’s Humpday Health we look into the benefits of tea in your healthy life.
“Tea has been around for a very very long time,” Tama Tea Co-Founder Rocco Quaranto said. “Over 3,200 years ago in China is supposedly where tea originates. So it’s been around for a long time. With that history, obviously it’s stuck around for some reason.”
That reason is that tea is just one healthy drink. When you compare it to such drinks as coffee or soda, the benefits to you is what sets this drink apart.
“Some of those health benefits are going to include increasing metabolism, endurance, reduce inflammation in the body, and a handful of other benefits as well.” Quaranto said.
There are many different types of tea, from Oolong to Green tea, so where does tea come from?
“Tea starts from the Camellia Sinesis plant,” Quaranto said. “Then, depending on how it’s processed, you get the different types of tea. That’s what’s really interesting about tea is that every tea comes from the exact same plant.”
Each different type of tea offers different benefits. Some give you a good caffeine boost that lasts and doesn’t give you the crash like coffee, while other tea can relax you. There’s something for everybody.
“The beauty of tea is that it varies so much,” Quaranto said. “You can go from a fruity cup to a hot cup to a lot or a little of caffeine. So you can vary that to your body and what you’re trying to get out of it.”
At Tama Tea in Wilmington, there are more than 50 different types of teas to try. Some they prepare behind the counter, others they steep right in front of you.
