WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A group of New Hanover County students spent the day learning about future jobs in our community.

Students from Myrtle Grove Middle School explored the variety of jobs at the Blockade Runner Beach Resort in Wrightsville Beach.

The 7th and 8th graders toured from the back of the house to the front of the house. They even got a chance to hear from employees, throughout the tour and learn about their jobs.

Students At Work program is a job-shadowing and job-mentoring initiative through the North Carolina Business Committee for Education.

“They are going to learn about the different job opportunities that are available in the hospitality and lodging industry and see what it takes to run a resort of this size,” Karen Pennington, Blockade Runner Beach Resort Marketing Director, said.

Pennington says the resort’s staff swells to three time the normal amount during the summer to keep up with the demand.

Nearly 20,000 students and more than 100 companies participate in the program statewide.
