Medication disposal event planned for Saturday, April 1

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — If you have any medications that need to be safely disposed of, New Hanover Regional Medical Center is holding a free event this Saturday.

Organizers say it’s an effort to reduce the risk of misuse or accidental exposure to medications, including opioids and other prescriptions.  The event is April 1st, from 9 a.m. to noon at the NHRMC Medical Mall, 2243 S. 17th St., beside the main hospital campus.

Here’s what you need to know about the event:

-All medications brought to the event should be in their original containers to help identify the medication.
-All personal information is removed.
-The Wilmington Police Department and New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office will be on hand to accept controlled substances.
-Medications can be prescription, over-the-counter, vitamins or herbal.
-Members of NC Harm Reduction Coalition will be present to accept unopened and used needles and syringes.
-Drive through service is available.
