C.B. McGrath talks publicly for first time about UNCW job

PHOENIX, AZ (WWAY) — C.B. McGrath and the North Carolina Tar Heels won the national championship of men’s college basketball on Monday night.

It’ll be the last game for McGrath as a UNC assistant basketball coach because he accepted the UNCW men’s head coach position.

Clearly, McGrath is going out on top. Today he talked about the end of his run in Chapel Hill and his life to come in Wilmington.

“I couldn’t have scripted it better. In the last game I coached at Carolina as an assistant I go out with a win, a national championship. It does not get much better.” McGrath said before the Tar Heels left Phoenix. “I would not leave for many jobs, but this is one I have always wanted for a long time. Wilmington is a great place. It’s a great place for the family and the community, a great university. Basketball program is really good, too, so it’s a perfect situation.”

McGrath signed a 5-year deal with UNCW worth at least $1.5 million.

UNCW is expected to formally introduce McGrath at an event at Trask Coliseum Thursday at 4 p.m.
