WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — According to a report by ESPN’s Recruiting Insider Jeff Borzello, UNCW has given guard CJ Bryce his release to transfer from the school.

Speculation immediately circulated Bryce and teammate Devontae Cacok, among other Seahawks when Coach Jevin Keatts left to coach at NC State.

At the official introduction of new UNCW Coach C.B. McGrath, Bryce told us that his immediate plans were to stay at UNCW but he wasn’t sure what the future held.!Cacok refused to comment at that time.

Last month, a tweet from the Pack Pride twitter account said that Bryce asked for his release from the university, but the tweet was later deleted.

We reached out to UNCW Athletic Director Jimmy Bass then and now, but he did not respond either time.

Bryce will have to sit out a year due to NCAA transfer rules, but ESPN’s Borzello calls Bryce “the best available sit-out transfer on the market”.
