NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — If there was a fan favorite this week at the Wells Fargo Championship, it had to be Phil Mickelson.
Mickelson had some of the largest galleries follow him all week long.
Many people thought the veteran might win his first Wells Fargo Championship in his 14th start in the tournament, but it was not meant to be. Still Mickelson said he enjoyed his time in Wilmington.
“This was a really a great event for us,” Mickelson said. “This is an incredible turnout, support for this tournament and coming to a town where we haven’t had golf before, to see the way the people turned out and supported the event was pretty impressive.”
Mickelson finished the day at even par. He was four under for the tournament.
