Congressmen honor WWII veterans in Bladen Co. with flags flown over Capitol

ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WWAY) — Two of our US Representatives stopped in Bladen County to honor more than a dozen World War II veterans with special gifts from the US Capitol today.

The Elizabethtown Rotary Club held the recognition ceremony for veterans this afternoon at the Cape Fear Vineyard and Winery. US Representatives David Rouzer and Robert Pittenger came to the ceremony to say thank to each of these men for their service.

Rouzer presented each veteran with a letter and Pittenger gave them each an American flag that was flown over the US capitol.

“My privilege in serving in Congress, my privilege in being an American is there, because of them, because of their commitment to stand courageously for liberty to fight for each of us a battle that we can’t even understand the scars that they still carry today,” Pittenger said.

Pittenger said the flags were flown over the capitol specifically as a tribute to these distinguished men.
