Whiteville City Schools releasing students early Friday ahead of state championship games

WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — A big weekend is coming up for Whiteville High School’s baseball and softball teams.

Both teams will be playing in the state championships at NC State in Raleigh, and that’s generated a lot of interest in the city.

As a result, Whiteville City Schools will release students at 12:15 p.m. on Friday. Faculty and staff will be allowed to leave at 1 p.m.

The school district is doing this to allow drivers to safely get to the games, because they expect most of the Whiteville community to travel there.

Whiteville High School is doing a send-off for the teams at 11 a.m. as they pull out from Legion Stadium.
