The Horry County Sheriff has floated the idea of establishing night court to alleviate crowding at the jail.

Sheriff Phillip Thompson went before officials at the Horry County Public Safety meeting on Tuesday to voice his concerns.

He says the jail hit an all time high over Memorial Day weekend with a capacity of 888 inmates. The facility can hold up to 1,000 inmates. He says last year the average was 650 inmates and that is what it is staffed for.

Thompson says night court will move non-violent offenders through the system more quickly.
