WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Are you recovering from an injury or looking for a way to get your workout in while not taking a toll on your body? Low-impact exercises may be for you.
Many of our segments on Humpday Health require vigorous exercise that strains your joints and body.
So if you’re looking for a way to stay fit and not hurt your body, hit the pool for some low-impact exercises.
“It’s pretty non intimidating you can just get in the pool and do it,” Trent Hayden, UNCW Triathlon coach, said. “You can have that progression of a very low impact low heart rate workout if you’re trying to get in shape or get a lot stronger workout if that’s what you’re looking for.”
There are many exercises that you can do like pool running, sit-ups from the poolside, or even treading water. Each workout allows you to get moving in a non-invasive way, but it doesn’t have to be easy.
Low-impact exercises are great to do when you are recovering from an injury as well as it allows you to rebuild the muscle or joint without harming it.
“In the low impact, I have many clients that I work with that have arthritis or knees or foot problems,” Hayden said. “Maybe they are just been knee or hip replacement surgery. It’s really great for all ages and that’s really unique.”
These kind of exercises aren’t meant to shed major amount of weight or gain serious muscle tones, but there’s more to being healthy than visible results.
