RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – A North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper has resigned after a video showed him driving the wrong way on a highway as he responded to reports of street racing.

A statement from the patrol on Tuesday said Trooper T.J. Williamson submitted his resignation effective immediately.

The video, which appeared across several social media outlets, showed a patrol car traveling on the wrong side of the highway and passing oncoming traffic. The highway is divided by a grass median.

Seven people were charged in connection with the street racing. Troopers seized five BMWs last Sunday after motorists called to report a group of people blocked traffic to race along U.S. Highway 321 in Catawba County.

All seven were charged with impeding traffic. Five of the seven also were charged with prearranged racing.

If this is how the officer responds to a situation with his on duty driving, what would his actions be if the situation involved the possibility of deadly force ?
He fails the stress test here and no one was harmed. Be thankful.

Too bad he wasn’t driving an Abrams tank. Out of state hoodlums come to NC to turn our streets into race tracks? They are breaking a myriad of laws and it’s all about the HP? The racers had the street blocked so there was no traffic except for these potential vehicular manslaughter candidates. Prearranged racing? They can kiss their $100,000 toys goodbye. Can you say auction?

How many innocent people could this cop killed in the process or do you not think that far ahead?

Try reading the article. The hoodlums had traffic stopped. The only cars on the road were theirs. BTW, the trooper has resigned. He made a mistake, but he is suffering because some out of state punks decided to make a racetrack out of our NC roads.

2 wrongs do not make a right.

I acknowledged that. But do you allow them to continue flying down the highway until they take out innocent people?

How many people could the cop have taken out? He could have killed way more than a street racer.

Try watching the video of the patrolman passing multiple cars coming at him while he is at a high rate of speed, traveling in the wrong directional lanes AND with NO lights and no siren! People don’t expect that, especially the elderly or a “green” driver who could easily react in a manner that would easily cause a deadly head on crash. This is officer made a bad judgement call using cognizant decision making. It was not an “mistake” by any means. He’s quite lucky he didn’t kill someone with that stupid stunt!

You need to read the article. The video “showed a patrol car traveling on the wrong side of the highway and passing oncoming traffic”.

Those were tractor trailers ,vans and cars being passed not BMW’s Not to worry tho he’ll be rehired in another county

This is the right thing to do. That way it doesn’t go on his record and her can go on to being an LEO that doesn’t make good decisions somewhere else in a town near you!
