WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wahine Classic went on all weekend long at Wrightsville Beach.
Unlike many other surfing competitions this one was for the girls. The boys stepped aside as girls of all ages took center stage, in the water.
This competition welcomed all surfing levels from beginner to professional. There were around 82 girls competing.
One surfer says this is one of her favorite competitions to participate in.
“I like it because there are girls, a lot of girls. It’s just like girl power! But I think it’s really fun, it’s just like you know everyone is so empowering ya know, it’s not just like, usually where I surf in my contest there is a lot of boys, so there is only like three girls. So I really like this contest,” one of the surfers competing, Kristagrace Hammel said.
This was the 5th annual Wrightsville Beach Wahine Classic.
