WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As UNCW gears up for another school year, they kicked off with an upgrade.

A newly renovated military resource lounge is now open with a mission to help military spouses.

The space was built in the Warwick Center to set up a support system for all military-affiliated students and their families.

People got to check out the new lounge Monday afternoon, which has doubled in size.

UNCW also launched the first university-based chapter of “in gear career.”

It’s a non-profit that helps military spouses build and keep their professional connections despite where they move next.

“Time is of the essence,” UNCW Director of Military Affairs Bill Kawczynski. “If we can support them in every possible way, provide resources in any opportunity, work with them on career paths. Obviously these organizations such as In Gear Career and Hiring Our Heroes does make a difference. So come in, get your education, go on to your career.”

The military resource lounge was built in 2015 and the university hopes the new expansion will help those who serve our country succeed.
