NCDOT gives update on I-140 repaving, crash victim wants roads back to even

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – A local man is out of work for more than a month.

He says it’s because of a crash along I-140 and that it was caused by the uneven repaving of the bridges.

The state Department of Transportation is repaving I-140 from highway 421 to 17 and began by adding paving to bridges. Lonnie Weaver was driving a dump truck Friday when a chair fell off a truck in front of him at one of the bridges.

Weaver says he signaled and attempted to avoid the chair but when he hit the bump it caused his truck to flip onto it’s side.

He wants the DOT to repave the road for the safety of other drivers.

“All of us drivers that travel this road everyday have been saying how unsafe these bumps are before and after approaching the bridges and exiting the bridges and overpasses. It’s just unsafe,” says Weaver.

Weaver was given a ticket by the highway patrol for failure to maintain lane.

The paving project was supposed to wrap up last month, but because of weather and utility delays, the DOT says it will be finished in November.
