CFPUA issues precautionary boil water advisory

WILMINGTON, NC WWAY) — While the CFPUA works to install a new stormwater pipe, they advise customers who live in certain areas to boil their drinking water.

There will be periods of low pressure and/or outages in the distribution system on Wednesday starting at 9:00 a.m.

This advisory is for the following areas:

• 600 through 1200 blocks of North Kerr
• 4500 & 4600 blocks of New Centre
• All of Alandale Drive
• All of Sagedale Drive
• All of Shortfin Drive
• All of Angelfish Lane Minnow Way
• All of Crawdad Court
• All of Amber Jack Drive
• All of Sunglow Drive
• All of Crimson Court
• All of Tabor Lane
• All of Indica Court

Customers in other areas of CFPUA are not affected and do not need to boil their water, the CFPUA says.  Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increases the potential for back siphonage and can introduce bacteria into the water system. CFPUA customers in the above areas are asked to boil their water for one minute, allow it to cool prior to using, and store the cooled water in a clean container with a cover.

Affected customers should use boiled water that has cooled or bottled water for:

• Drinking.
• Brushing teeth.
• Washing fruits and vegetables.
• Preparing food and baby formula.
• Making ice.
• Giving to pets

Customers do NOT need to boil water prior to using it for showering or bathing. This advisory shall be in effect until water quality testing has occurred and service is returned to normal.

When testing is completed, typically within 24 hours, and service is returned to normal, the advisory will be lifted.
