Woman dies in Carolina Beach ‘drowning incident’


CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A North Carolina woman died after a drowning incident in Carolina Beach late Friday.

Police and fire departments arrived near the Pelican Lane beach access after receiving a call of a female not breathing.

Witnesses told first responders woman was located in the surf when bystanders pulled her out of the ocean.

First responders began life saving measures to stabilize the woman. She was transported to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

55-year-old Diane Wilson Currie of Graham died the following morning at the hospital.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will make the official determination for the cause of death.

No foul play is suspected at this time. The investigation is still on-going.
