WILMINGTON, North Carolina (UNCWSports.com) – Senior Thomas Eldridge was named Men’s Golfer-of-the-Week by the Colonial Athletic Association after his fifth-place finish lifted UNCW to a third-place finish at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He becomes the second Seahawk to win the award in as many weeks, joining sophomore Blake McShea, who finished at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate earlier this month.
Eldridge (75-71-65=211) rode seven birdies in his final round to match his career-low round of 65. He led the tournament with 15 birdies over the course of three rounds. It was his second top-10 finish of the fall and the 12th of his career.
Eldridge defeated six golfers in Golfweek’s top-100 entering the tournament.
The Seahawks finished third behind NC State and host Iowa. UNCW’s final round 281 was seven-under-par and the lowest round of the day.
UNCW returns to action Oct. 7-8 at the UNC Intercollegiate in Chapel Hill, N.C.
