NourishNC said he was selected because of his history of impactful service and dedication to helping NourishNC fight child hunger.

“Ray is a model for volunteer excellence. He has been a steadfast advocate for NourishNC and for feeding food insecure children in our community. Ray’s ability to bring leadership and resources to NourishNC has been unparalleled this past year,” said NourishNC Executive Director, Steve McCrossan.

The organization says Worrell has advocated and volunteered for NourishNC in a myriad of ways. He’s packed backpacks full of food for hungry kids, served on the NourishNC Board of Directors and Fundraising Committee, publicly advocated for fighting child hunger, and has been a tremendous philanthropist in his own right. His business, Slice of Life, has also been a model for giving back to the community and supporting local nonprofits.

NourishNC is a non-profit agency that provides supplemental food assistance to hungry children. The mission of NourishNC is to provide healthy food to hungry children, empowering them to succeed in the classroom and in their community. Their goal is to enhance children’s health and well-being by preventing the disastrous consequences of child hunger.

NourishNC accomplishes this by providing 8 nutritious meals, snacks, milk or juice, and produce to 800 children in 38 schools every weekend via the Backpack Program. We also serve our children over all school breaks by providing them with Break Boxes that contain: 3 meals a day, juice, milk, healthy snacks, and fresh produce.
