WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – Sunday services at one Wilmington AME church were not the typical sequence of events. That’s because the church hosted the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and Wilmington Police for “A Day of Worship Honoring Law Enforcement”.
The services also included time for the sheriff’s office and Wilmington Police to share a message to the community. Several deputies were honored during the service as well.
The event was sponsored by the Saint Luke AME Church and Operation Gratitude.
Operation Gratitude annually sends 200,000+ care packages filled with food, entertainment, hygiene products, and handmade items to Veterans, First Responders, New Recruits, Wounded Heroes, Care Givers, as well as individually named U.S. service members deployed overseas and their families waiting at home. The packages also include personal letters of appreciation written by Americans nationwide.
Operation Gratitude’s mission is to elevate spirits and meet the evolving needs of the Military and First Responder communities. The organization provides volunteer opportunities for civilians anywhere in America who wish to express their appreciation to those who serve our nation.
