WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Community members in Wilmington came out Thursday night for food and conversation.
Potluck for Peace is an effort to impact peaceful change in the community through food, fellowship and enriching dialogue.
The event took place during YWCA USA’s Week Without Violence, an annual campaign focused on ending gender-based violence.
Thursday’s discussion topic was “Violence Against Women of Color.”
Event organizers hope to create a powerful conversation about change, acceptance, and awareness.
“1 in 4 women experiences domestic violence in their lifetime and even more so, women experience financial abuse so that’s the reason that we’re having this event today, because we want to raise awareness about this issue,” YWCA Lower Cape Fear Executive Director Charrise Hart said.
Hart said organizers hope to use Thursday’s Potluck for Peace event as a launching pad to open up more discussion about violence against women.
Hart added that YWCA Lower Cape Fear is always looking for volunteers.
