COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A man is accused of breaking into a Tabor City church and stealing several items, including a piggy bank with $100 inside it.
The break-in happened at Gapway Baptist Church sometime between Friday and Sunday morning.
Michele Tatum with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office says the suspect, Marc Alan Bond, 19, entered the church and took a desktop computer, a vacuum cleaner, a drop cord, and the piggy bank.
The sheriff’s office says while investigating, deputies found footprints behind the church near a camper. Deputies found the owner of the camper and got permission to search it. The sheriff’s office says they found the stolen items inside the camper.
Bond, who was staying in the camper, was arrested Sunday afternoon. He is charged with the following:
- Breaking and/or entering a house of worship
- Larceny after B&E
- Possession of stolen goods
His bond is set at $10,000.
