WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Hundreds of hours put in during the 2017 Azalea Garden Tour to raise thousands of dollars. So, now it’s the time of year the Garden Club gives back to different community organizations.

The Cape Fear Garden Club distributed more than $72,000 at the Cape Fear Country Club to different non-profits and agencies. The money goes to groups which focus on aspects like education, beautification and conservation. This is all in an effort to better the community for the future.

“Over the past 25 years, we are closing in on 2,000,000 dollars given back to our community. We are very proud of the work by members of this garden club and by the support,” Kimberly Exum, the disbursement committee chairman, says.

Some of the grants renewed for this year are for Cape Fear Community College, UNCW and North Carolina Audubon Society for Battery Island.
