Cape Fear Fair & Expo kicks off

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s one of the most wonderful times of the year. Or at least in the fall. It’s time for the Cape Fear Fair & Expo.

Thousands came out for opening day at the Wilmington International Airport. Commissioner Skip Watkins is managing the fair and also says safety is their top priority.

“The North Carolina Department of Labor came out yesterday and today. They finished inspection today. I am proud to say for the 28th year, 100 percent of the rides on site were approved and ready to go,” Watkins says.

The fair goes on for more than a week, so there is plenty of time to come out, enjoy some rides, have some funnel cake and enjoy an amazing view from the top of the ferris wheel.

Many people have different favorites at the fair. Between the food and the rides, some say it keep them and their families coming back every year.

“I think so many people love to come to the fair because people bring their family out here and they spend quality time with their family,” Tatyanna White says.

“It just gets really good reviews and stuff like that. That’s why I came the first time ever. So, that’s why my parents wanted me to come. It’s just like a good family experience for everyone and it’s pretty fun,” Natalie Prtichard says.

“It’s a good break in the routine. Something you don’t do every day. It’s a break in the routine that allows you to just experience something new, even if it’s just a look at what other people are doing,” Louis Barrios says.

Tickets for the fair cost $22.
