Warning: The video could be considered disturbing to some

MIAMI — A now-viral video shows a Florida police officer punch a woman in the face after she slaps him while being ejected from a University of Miami football game Saturday night.

According to the Miami-Herald, Miami-Dade Police Detective Douglas Ross was called to Section 129 at Hard Rock Stadium during the Miami Hurricanes’ game against the Virginia Tech Hokies in reference to a disturbance. When he arrived, Ross found 30-year-old Bridget Freitas arguing with other fans and “using profanity.”

When she wouldn’t exit the section, officers had to use force.

In the video, several officers, including Ross, are seen carrying Freitas from the section. During the altercation, Freitas slaps Ross before he turns and hits her in the face.

“Upon lifting (Freitas), (Freitas) swung and struck (Det. Ross) in the face while attempting to get away, causing this Det. (Ross) to strike (Freitas) in the face to gain compliance and control,” the police report read.

She was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct.

A video of the vicious punch was posted on Instagram by user 5thyear.

Gender equality. I get tired of hearing “nobody should ever hit a woman”. In an ideal world nobody should hit anyone at all but we live in this reality. Touch and get touched back.

Funny how our society has changed. What used to be “taboo” is embraced these days, What use to be “acceptable behavior” is considered taboo.
This isn’t a good sign of times to come….

The woman was clearly under the influence of something. The officer was out of line. The police did not properly restrain the woman and that lead to her swinging at the officer. If the police had done their job right none of that would have occurred The woman was wrong and should be charged with assaulting an officer. But the officer was also wrong and needs to be disciplined for it. . It’s unfortunate.

Don’t resist, simple. She made a fool of herself. Don’t know why women think they can act like men but expect to be treated like a woman.

    • Christopher Meyers

“Making a fool of yourself” is what drunks and druggies do best. Police officers are supposed to know how to properly restrain people and exhibit some self-control! Had the police done either, this would’ve never happened and there wouldn’t be an issue at all. Yeah, she was a total inebriated idiot, but the police weren’t far behind her, they just weren’t inebriated!

I agree with you. Had it been a man it wouldn’t be in the news.

She clearly backhanded the officer pretty squarely! I don’t think it was necessary for him to punch her back with such power. They should’ve just put some cuffs on her at that point and she would have been properly subdued AND charged with assaulting an officer. He was clearly “reactive” with that slam to her face and has very poor self control. That video will get her a good lawsuit!

She doesn’t deserve to be paid for being a drunken violent disgrace, even if she’s a woman.

      • Christopher Meyers

She won’t be paid for that. But she may very well be paid for being fist-slammed by a police officer twice her size that didn’t use his so called “departmentally trained self-control” AND didn’t have her properly restrained in the first place!

  • Deborah Carol Peterson-Butchel

That was totally inappropriate by an officer and overkill..

I think not!! when the girl chose to put on “big boy britch’s” and take that first swing, she join’s an elite club, it’s called “the big boy’s club”! she got exactly what she asked for, and usually I am on the frontline raising cane about strong handed law enforcement.

    • Rudi

She got what she deserved. Enough of putting up with horrible behaviour and avoiding the consequences simply because of sex. Don’t worry though, she’ll get a pass at sentencing.

  • Brenda Melvin Davis

    She deserved it. PERIOD.
