Hoggard completes perfect regular season with blowout over New Hanover

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Our team this week probably started to wonder when their name would be called on Wednesday afternoon. Finally the Hoggard Vikings will get their credit as our final 5th Quarter Team of the Week.

We could’ve picked the Hoggard Vikings for any one of their previous 10 wins this season, but Friday night they got their biggest win of all. The 11th win for the undefeated regular season, the Mideastern Conference crown and the ownership of Wilmington bragging rights.

“It’s always amazing to beat our rival and it’s such an accomplishment to say that we’re undefeated,” Hoggard Senior Tight End Austin Edwards said. “We tied as conference champs with New Hanover last year, so to say that we have it and it’s ours means something.”

The Hoggard offense was a major part of that win lead by 5th Quarter Player of the Week Tre Houser. But just as big was the defense who held New Hanover to only one touchdown and Hoggard Senior Defensive Lineman Mckenzie Fraizer added a score of his own.

“We’ve grown a lot since last year, we had a lot of juniors last year,” Fraizer said. “We’re just a really strong defense. We hang out a lot after practice and on weekends to do a lot of team bonding things. It helps the defense grow.”

Coach Craig Underwood said that it was going to take the entire team executing to get the victory. This includes the Hoggard special teams who helped control the field position for the conference title game.

“Jeremiah Kim and Will Morton both won field position for us all night long,” Coach Underwood said. “I think it was five touchbacks for Jeremiah and four punts for Will inside the ten yard line so that’s outstanding.”

In the game of the year, Hoggard proved to everyone they are a 5th Quarter Team of the Week.

Congratulations to the Mideastern Conference Champion Vikings!
