KURE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — While still serving her first term as mayor of Kure Beach, Emilie Swearingen announced she would not seek another term as mayor.

Instead, she ran for one of two seats on town council, while commissioner Craig Bloszinsky ran for mayor.

There was a possibility of a changing of seats, but Swearingen did not garner enough votes to claim one of the two seats up for grabs on town council.

Out of six candidates running, Swearingen finished third with 216 votes.  A couple of newcomers are the winners. John Allen came in first with 289 votes, followed by Allen Oliver with 274.

Commissioner Craig Bloszinsky was an easy winner for mayor, garnering 81-percent of the vote against Chris Hald.
