WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Every year, many of our athletes put pen to paper as they take their next step in their athletic career. Today was the first day of the Fall signing period at the schools of Hoggard and Topsail.
Over in Vike-Town, seven Hoggard athletes signed their National Letters of Intent to play college athletics.
Lola Lovitt is going to play basketball at Georgia Southern, Alyssa Cooke will play lacrosse, volleyball for Caroline Kirby Smith and Anna Moore hits the links.
Then there’s Parker Nolan, Logan Adams and Matthew Suggs who will all get their college education while on the baseball diamond.
Most will be heading outside of the area, but Suggs will trade his Hoggard blue for UNCW teal and play for Coach Scalf and the Seahawks.
“It’s a dream come true,” Suggs said. “All the work that I’ve done to this point is amazing. I just can”t believe I’m here. Wilmington is just such a great school and I love their baseball program and their coaches. It’s just amazing and I’m so thankful for this opportunity that I have.”
Topsail High School celebrated six athletes themselves as Tanesha Williams, Alyssa Randal and Lauren Drew Marshall will all head to Campbell.
Christina McLean and Hannah Jones will play softball and lacrosse respectfully and Caroline Harris will play tennis at Queen’s University. All thirteen of these athletes are continuing their career, something they have all dreamed of.
“I’m so excited,” Harris said. “I’m just pumped to play in college next year. I have always wanted this, it has been my main goal. I’m super excited.”
Congratulations to all the athletes! Represent the area well!
