BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Two people were arrested yesterday evening after Brunswick County Sherriff deputies say they found a kilo of cocaine inside their car during a traffic stop.
The arrests come following a two month, multi-agency investigation.
Deonte Xavier Bigelow, 27, of Elon, is charged with two counts of trafficking in cocaine, conspire to traffic in cocaine, and PWIMSD cocaine.
Courtnae Shantae Wiley, 27, of Burlington, has also been charged with two counts of trafficking in cocaine, conspire to traffic in cocaine, and PWIMSD cocaine.
The investigation led to a traffic stop at Highway 17 near Leland Wednesday evening where Bigelow and Wiley were taken into custody.
Following a search of the vehicle by the BCSO K9 Unit, agents seized approximately 1000 grams or 1 kilo of cocaine.
The joint investigation included the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Fire (ATF), the Alamance Narcotics Enforcement Task Force (ANET), the Drug Enforcement Administration out of Wilmington, the FBI Coastal Carolina Criminal Enterprise Task Force and New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff John Ingram said, “Drug dealers know no jurisdictional boundaries. We are grateful to those agencies that assisted in apprehending these two large scale cocaine distributors in southeast NC.”
Bigelow and Wiley are both being held on a $1 million bond in the Bladen County Jail.
