WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The annual One-Day Blitz to restock the Salvation Army’s food pantry wrapped up this evening after going on all day long.

Thiusands of people came out to Krispy Kreme on South College Road to support the cause by donating non-perishable food items, and for every five items folks received a voucher for a dozen glazed donuts.

This year there was a line of people out the door waiting to get some doughnuts after donating.

“It has been an absolute record breaking day today,” said Maj. Mark Craddock with the Salvation Army. “We are just absolutely thrilled with the results, the generosity, the people, the attitude of everyone, the working together. It’s been a great day.”

We don’t know exactly how many pounds of food was given to the Salvation Army but we know it was thousands! Krispy Kreme manager said more than 5,000 people redeemed their donut voucher today.

Maj. Craddock said the food collected Tuesday will last them at least until next summer.

Thank you to everyone who participated!
