NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man is dead after a wreck on Blue Clay Road Monday just before 8 p.m.

State Highway Patrol First Sgt. M.W. King said 27-year-old Tyler Holding died at the scene.

King said two cars were heading south on Blue Clay Road when the drivers drove off the right side of the street near Old Mill Road. One of the cars, a Chrysler, hit two utility poles before it stopped. The other car, driven by Holding, got back onto the road before hitting a tree and sign.

The person driving the Chrysler was taken to the hospital but was released.

The investigation is still underway but King said once it is finished the State Highway Patrol will consult with the District Attorney to determine whether charges will be issued.

King also said the two drivers were speeding at the time of the wreck.
