NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A neighborhood off River Road in New Hanover County will likely be the future home of an elementary school.
New Hanover County Commissioners unanimously approved a joint resolution that will notify the developer of RiverLights that a new school is needed.
Newland Communities has reserved a site of no less than 15 acres for an elementary school through a Development Agreement with the City of Wilmington. In accordance with the agreement, New Hanover County and the Board of Education must notify Newland Communities that a school is needed to serve this section of the county.
The Board of Education prepared the joint resolution, which they then approved on Tuesday, November 7.
The county says this resolution does not allocate any funds toward the construction of the school, it simply saves the lot.
According to county documents, neither New Hanover County nor the School District have identified funding for construction.
