New Hanover Co. Sheriff’s Office gives more than $100k to schools

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Schools are getting thousands of dollars from the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Ed McMahon spoke to leaders at Tuesday night’s Board of Education meeting in Wilmington.

McMahon said the Sheriff’s Office is able to give the schools nearly $133,000 from drug deals and criminal enterprises.

A Sheriff’s Office spokesman said the last time the Sheriff’s Office was able to give more than $100,000 to the school system this way was back in 2010.
