CALABASH, NC (WWAY) — At the end of October, we learned about kittens found in a landfill that were saved in the nick of time by a waste industries worker. One of the kittens, named Simba, had severe damage to its paw. Earlier today, he got surgery done at VCA Seaside Hospital.

According to the family taking care of him, the doctor said he did well in surgery. The doctor took off some problem toes and closed the paw.

Simba will be monitored very closely for any signs of infection that could quickly lead to gangrene.

Simba has full function of his leg and paw.
