WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — ‘Tis the season for holiday festivities like cocktail parties, sweater parties, and family get-togethers. That is why one community college and organization teamed up Wednesday afternoon to make sure everyone stays safe while having fun.
Cape Fear Community College and Coastal Horizons hosted a “mocktail” at Union Station in Downtown Wilmington. The event was open to dozens of students and staff.
CFCC’s Baking and Pastry Arts students provided snacks and five different alcohol free drinks. The goal of the event was to promote safe holiday celebrations, healthy choices, and to prevent alcoholism.
“I think it’s really important because there’s so many teenagers and underage people drinking and getting in accidents during the holiday season,” CFCC Student, Adrian MeGee said. “So I thought it’d be cool spreading the news and saying hey, let’s try not to drink. So look at this stuff it looks like a drink but it’s not. Trick the people.”
Organizers say drunk driving costs each adult in the nation nearly $500 per year. That is money they hope you use towards holiday gifts this year.
