Two people charged in Brunswick County murder


BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office has charged two people in connection with Friday’s fatal shooting in Longwood.

According to a release from Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Emily Flax, Eugene Anthwon Powell, 23, was charged with murder, communicating threats, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. Summer Lynn Gray, 21, was charged with accessory to murder after the fact, and possession of cocaine.

The shooting occurred Friday night in the area of Carlon Rd. NW and George Daniels Rd. NW in Longwood around 6:30 p.m.

The victim was 30-year-old Anthony Scott Beers.

According to arrest warrants, Powell threatened to kill Beers the week before the murder.

Beers was transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where he died Sunday morning.
