WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — On cold winter days there are some kids in the area who don’t have jackets to wear and stay warm. A group of firefighters have stepped in to make a difference in the community.
New Hanover County Professional Firefighters Association delivered donated coats to Castle Hayne Elementary Friday morning.
All of the jackets are from the community and members of the professional firefighters situation say it is a rewarding experience to know kids are being helped.
“It feels very good for us,” Brent Stophel, Pro Firefighters Vice President, said. “We are out in the public eye and it feels good to be able to give back and to help these kids just be able to to have fun outside or staying at the bus stop or you know, the weather we had last week with being able to play all week outside and not have to worry about it.”
The association also donated coats at Wrightsboro Elementary School this afternoon.
In all, they donated 168 coats to local children.
