WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As an athlete, you always dream of being part of a parade as a champion and that’s exactly what the hometown team got during the MLK, Jr. Parade.
With the New Hanover band leading the charge, the Wildcats football team enjoyed their moment in the spotlight in front of a large crowd.
A moment that was special for coaches and players alike.
“It’s amazing,” Wildcats Quarterback Blake Walston said. “You only get this opportunity once in a lifetime so why not enjoy it while it’s here.”
“It’s wonderful for the kids, players, coaches and the community,” New Hanover Head Coach Earl Smith said. “We’ve been to the school board and we’re getting ready to go to the city council meeting. It’s all good community stuff. People that I don’t know keep coming up to me and congratulating me and the team. It’s good stuff.”
Tomorrow the team will be recognized at halftime of the varsity guys Hoggard vs. New Hanover basketball game.
