Police: Lumberton officer accidentally shot his partner

Lumberton city police officer Aaron Revels shot his partner James Walters when his weapon accidentally discharged Friday on Peterson Drive near the dead end, off of Fayetteville Road, according to Captain Terry Parker with Lumberton police.

Walters was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center for treatment for his injuries, which were not life threatening, according to officials.

Parker said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Officer’s Walters and Revels during this difficult time.”

The Lumberton Police Department has requested assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation in investigating the case, which is standard operating procedure.

No further details are being released at this time.
