WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — One mom is trying out a new type of fundraiser to help students who attend the Wilmington Early College. They are trying to raise money for a trip to New York.

A shoe drive fundraiser took place outside of Toys”R”Us from 1:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Organizer April Farr’s daughter goes to Wilmington Early College and said it was important to her to help out.

The fundraiser is through Funds2Orgs, a company who uses the shoes to help provide an economic opportunity for workers in developing nations.

“I looked online for different fundraising opportunities and I think we’ve all done the cookie dough and popcorn to death, and this is something new and it’s important to me that everyone involved benefits from it,” Farr said.

Farr said the goal is to raise 500 pairs of shoes and hopefully raise enough money for 26 students.
