WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Junior Golf Academy is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
The Wilmington Junior Golf Academy is more than a sports program. It focuses on teaching life skills and education through golf.
Coach Jake Hunt said the program started ten years ago as a program to teach kids how to play golf for free, but he said it is about so much more than golf.
“These kids ask questions about real problems in their lives,” Hunt said.
The Academy uses golf to teach young people the true values of life and life skills. During rounds of golf young people become more grounded and more productive.
Hunt said they do have an event coming up in March. The program’s major fundraising luncheon, is March 2 at Carrabba’s.
Hunt said they have summer camps at Belvedere Country Club. There are year round programs for kids and no golf skill is necessary.
