WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Valentine’s Day falls in the middle of the week this year, but preparations are already underway. There is a lot behind the scenes before key gifts like flowers are delivered.

Roses are red, violets are blue and this Valentine’s Day florist are making it special for you.

“Everybody is happy to see flowers come,” Julia’s Florist owner Jeff Cook said.

Love is in the air and now in full bloom as flower shops around Wilmington are working hard to make others feel loved.

“It’s going to make her feel special like she’s really cared for. Someone has planned, thought about I’m going to give her these special roses today because, to show her I love her,” Beautiful Flowers by June owner June Sweeny said.

Sweeny said it is about more than the flowers, it is the message behind them that makes the gift sweeter especially when a personal touch is added.

“The card messages that they write sometimes are just delightful and sweet and funny,” Sweeny said.

Kind words and the act of giving can make the heart skip a beat.

“It’s the thoughtfulness of the person sending them. A lot of times the flowers, it’s just a reminder of the feelings somebody else has and there is the beauty of the flowers, the smell of the flowers, the actual act of giving the flowers is such a win-win thing,” Cook said.

Even though this is one of the busiest days of the year Sweeny said she doesn’t mind playing Cupid.

“The guys come in they don’t know what to buy or they don’t know what to write on the card and we help them with all that and it ends up being fun,” Sweeny said.

The flowers may not last forever, but hopefully their message of love will.

Valentine’s Day is Wednesday, so there is still a little bit of time to get those last-minute gifts for loved ones.
